The qualification provides individuals with subject knowledge and essential practical skills to fill a Medical Engineering role. The qualification lasts a minimum of two years and will provide an excellent insight to all aspects of medical engineering. The student will learn fundamental techniques to fault find, service and maintain Medical Equipment.

This qualification can be used flexibly to meet learner needs. Depending on the context of the learning and the needs of each individual learner, the qualification can:

  • prepare individuals to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level
    or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding;
  • prepare learners for employment;
  • support a role in the workplace;
  • encourage engagement in learning.

This qualification has been designed to enable learners to:

  • carry out fault diagnosis on medical equipment;
  • service and maintain medical equipment;
  • be able to adhere to all health and safety regulations within the working environment;
  • be able to use the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

It is a requirement that assessment of this qualification is conducted in English.

The AIM Qualifications Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance (Servicing Medical Equipment) is accredited by Ofqual.
