The AIM Level 2 Certificate in The Theory of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy serves as a broad introduction to hypnosis and a popular short-term therapy, hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is a talking therapy that uses the technique of hypnosis to help people with many mild issues such as anxiety, phobias and simple habits. Hypnosis has been around for thousands of years, with it developing into the therapy we know today over the past 200 years.
This qualification introduces learners to the history of hypnosis and to an understanding of how hypnosis is used and how a hypnotherapy practitioner develops an ethical and professional understanding of how to work with clients in a safe and helpful way. Part of this understanding is that a practitioner does not learn the skill of hypnosis through an online course, video instruction or through books, but must learn the skill with the face to face guidance of a professional hypnotherapist. This course therefore does not instruct the learner how to hypnotise a person, but instead introduces the topic to the learner so that if they were interested in taking further training through a face to face course, they were well prepared.
The learner will be introduced to a popular relaxation technique which they may practice if they wish and will learn how this technique can be personalised and delivered to a volunteer, but relaxation is not hypnosis.
This course will be of interest to anyone who has a general interest in the history and development of hypnosis and hypnotherapy and also to already qualified psychotherapists, psychologists, nurses, doctors or counsellors as Continuing Professional Development. This course may also be of interest to adult learners who may be returning to study or changing career to gain their first therapy qualification through supported home study. It is also of personal interest for greater self-awareness and self- development.
