What does the Junior STEP test?

  • About 200 words (the First STEP words, plus 100 more) from familiar categories such as parts of the body, animals, food and means of transport
  • Some useful structures to say who people are and what they’re doing
  • Some prepositions to say where people and things are
  • Some basic questions to find out what things are, or who things belong to

What does the student have to do in their Junior exam?

VERBS
Present Simple ( to be, to have, in the third person singular) Question form and short answers Describing personal attributes.
Identifying an object
He has black hair. The mouse is behind the cupboard. What is it? Is it a bird? Yes, it is. No it isn't.
Present continuous Describing present actions My brothers are watching a video. Jane is playing in the garden.
