The Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry for Teaching Assistants focusing on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Diploma is designed to provide learners with the essential knowledge and skills needed to enter the teaching assistant and provide specialist knowledge and strategies in Special Educational Needs.
This qualification provides learners with the opportunity to recognise and develop their knowledge, understanding and skills for supporting teaching, learning and assessment in various environments.
Learners will explore the theoretical principles and regulatory concerns around Special Educational Needs and apply strategies to assist teaching, learning and assessment within a vocational setting. Learners may choose to seek employment in one of many varied occupational areas for example:
▪ SEN Teaching Assistant
▪ Teaching Assistant
With further study learners could become a fully qualified SEN or mainstream teacher, or in related careers that would require further study, including:
▪ Higher Level Teaching Assistant
▪ Primary School Teacher
▪ FE Lecturer
▪ SENCO

Quality Assurance Requirements
Tutors:
To offer this qualification, centres must ensure that tutors hold or are working towards:
- Hold or are working towards a relevant teaching and assessing qualification at Level 3 or above.
- Have substantial experience in teaching, tutoring and assessing of learners (desirable).
Internal Quality Assurer (IQA):
Centres must also ensure that they have in place an Internal Quality Assurance person who:
- Holds or is working towards a Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices or its equivalent.
- Has substantial experience of working in or assessing qualifications in the sector.
- Is familiar with the assessment requirements of the qualification for which they are the Internal Quality Assurer.
