A short introductory qualification for learners to decide if they would like to pursue this area of study further. The qualification provides a basic introduction to dog grooming as either an owner, animal care profession or hobbyist.
This qualification has been designed for learners who wish to learn the maintenance of several types of dog breeds and understand health and safety in a dog grooming salon.
On successful completion of the Level 3 Award Introduction to Dog Grooming, learners may progress onto the Level 3 Certificate in Dog Grooming or the Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming.

To achieve the Level 3 Award Introduction to Dog Grooming, learners must achieve:
- 5 credits from the Mandatory Units
- No optional units

Learners should be aged 16 or above, be working at level 2 and be comfortable around dogs of all sizes, breeds and temperaments.
Portfolio of evidence, including evidence of practical work.
Tutors:
To offer this qualification, centres must ensure that tutors hold or are working towards:
- The City and Guilds Advanced Grooming Certificate 7750 or;
- The full 7736-03; or
- The new 7863-03 Diploma
or
- Holds the AIM Qualifications Level 3 Certificate/Diploma in Dog Grooming.
and
- Principal tutor/ assessor will have minimum of 3 years practical experience.
In addition, a relevant teaching qualification will be required, such as:
- the Level 3 Award in Education and Training; or
- the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training; or
- Level 3 or 4 PTLLS (or equivalent).
Internal Quality Assurer (IQA):
Centres must also ensure that they have in place an Internal Quality Assurance person who:
- Has substantial experience of working in or assessing qualifications in Dog Grooming.
- Is familiar with the assessment requirements of the qualification for which they are the Internal Quality Assurer.
