The Access to HE Diploma (Teaching) aims to develop student’s knowledge in a variety of different units that will help to prepare them for both a career in teaching and study in Higher Education. Students will explore how people learn and how to support learning whilst developing their own skills and knowledge in key curriculum areas.
It also provides students with the opportunity to look at different areas of ITT education mathematics, science, english, history and politics. Throughout the Diploma, students will also develop transferable skills such as planning and preparing, working with others, understanding how people learn and explaining complex ideas effectively.
The aim of this qualification is to prepare students for progression into higher education subjects including, but not limited to:
- further education
- initial teacher education
- primary education
- secondary education subject specific degrees such as English, history or politics.
Upon successful completion of this Diploma, students will be able to:
1. explain the roles and responsibilities of a teacher
2. recognise the different factors that influence learning
3. articulate key concepts from a variety of disciplines relevant to teaching
4. plan and deliver an effective lesson
5. develop core research, referencing and study skills for success in HE
The qualification prepares students for study at higher education level.
