The Access to HE Diploma (Sport) aims to develop student’s knowledge in a range of subjects in order to define and explore the importance of the sports industry. Students will learn about human behaviour, undertake research and enhance their communication skills. Throughout the Diploma students will undertake preparation for study at Higher Education level.

It also provides students with the opportunity to look at different areas of sports, sports science, sports psychology, coaching, leisure and health. Throughout the Diploma, students will also develop transferable skills such as working with others, effective communication, customer care, cross cultural understanding.

The aim of this qualification is to prepare students for progression into higher education subjects including, but not limited to:

• coaching
• health
• leisure
• sports
• sports psychology
• sports management
• sports science.

Upon successful completion of this Diploma, students will be able to:

1. discuss contemporary issues effecting the sports industry
2. use different perspectives to explain the importance of the sports industry
3. outline different management approaches to sports
4. contextualise fundamental scientific concepts of sports and exercise science
5. have an awareness of effective communication skills
6. develop core research, referencing and study skills for success in HE

The qualification prepares students for study at higher education level.
