The Access to HE Diploma (Social Work) aims to develop students’ understanding of complex relationships between people and society, explore social injustice and inequality and examine the role of social workers. Whilst learning about social policy, people and society, students will also have the opportunity to develop communication and report writing skills.
Throughout the Diploma, students will also develop transferable skills such as effective, communication, working with others, interpreting information and accuracy and attention to detail.
The aim of this qualification is to prepare students for progression into higher education subjects including, but not limited to:
- social work
- health and social care
- child and youth studies
- social science.
Upon successful completion of this Diploma, students will be able to:
1. understand the role of social workers in supporting, protecting and empowering people
2. recognise inequalities and injustices in society
3. explain the relevance of sociological and psychological perspectives to social work
4. articulate the importance of effective communication in social work
5. develop core research, referencing and study skills for success in HE
The qualification prepares students for study at higher education level.
