About this qualification

The Access to HE Diploma (Social Science) aims to develop student’s knowledge a range of social science subjects in order to access and explore ideas about society and how people shape and experience the social world. Students will explore different topics and concepts and develop their learning skills in this versatile diploma.

This qualification also allows students to undertake units in policing and criminology, sociology and social policy, counselling, law, sport, psychology, health studies, ITT education subject groups including Police Powers, Race and Ethnicity, Abnormal Psychology, Understanding Stress and Property Offences units. Throughout the Diploma, students will also develop transferable skills such as research skills, working with others, utilising evidence and cross-cultural understanding.

Objectives of the qualification

The aim of this qualification is to prepare students for progression into higher education subjects including, but not limited to:

  • anthropology
  • criminology
  • education studies
  • social policy
  • sociology
  • social work
  • politics
  • psychology.
