The Access to HE Diploma (Science and Engineering) aims to develop student’s knowledge and skills in a range of different science and engineering professions. Students will develop their understanding of the key scientific and engineering principles and learn how to conduct scientific experiments. During this Diploma students will explore different applications of science and engineering and enhance their problem solving skills through a variety of different assessments whilst developing their subject knowledge. Throughout the Diploma, students will also develop transferable skills such working with others in teams, interpreting information and numeracy.
It also provides students with the opportunity to look at different areas of science, including biology, chemistry and physics, as well as computing and mathematics. Students will also be required to complete a practical assessment as part of this Diploma.
The aim of this qualification is to prepare students for progression into higher education subjects including, but not limited to:
- engineering (civil, mechanical, architectural, aeronautical, electrical, biomedical,
- environmental)
- science (biology, chemistry, physics)
- mathematics.
Upon successful completion of this Diploma, students will be able to:
1. demonstrate a breadth of knowledge of key principles in science and engineering
2. apply mathematical understanding in the context of science and engineering
3. solve problems in a science and engineering context
4. articulate complex ideas relating to science and engineering effectively
5. develop core research, referencing and study skills for success in HE
The qualification prepares students for study at higher education level.
