The Access to HE Diploma (Policing) aims to develop student’s knowledge and skills in a range of different policing related professions. Students will develop understanding of the powers of the police and the role of the police. This will enable students to examine criminal behaviour and practical approaches to managing and responding to crime in society.
This qualification also allows students to undertake units in policing and criminology, sociology and social policy, psychology, health studies, politics, law, work placement and computing subject groups including Police Powers, The Causes of Crime, Memory, Social Service Provision for Adults and Homicide units. Throughout the Diploma, students will also develop transferable skills such as working with others in teams, utilising evidence, effective communication and explaining human behaviour
The aim of this qualification is to prepare students for progression into higher education subjects including, but not limited to:
- policing
- criminology
- psychology
- sociology
- anthropology
- social policy.
Upon successful completion of this Diploma, students will be able to:
1. understand the importance of respect, ethics, accountability and integrity in policing
2. explain the powers of the police
3. discuss different methods to policing and crime
4. utilise different methods to explain crime
5. develop core research, referencing and study skills for success in HE
The qualification prepares students for study at higher education level.
