About this qualification

The Access to HE Diploma (Policing and Criminology) aims to develop student’s knowledge and skills in a range of different policing and criminology related professions. Students will develop understanding of the powers of the police and explore what is meant by criminal justice. This will 
enable students to examine the role of the police, criminal behaviour and practical approaches to managing and responding to crime in society.

This qualification also allows students to undertake units in policing and criminology, sociology and social policy, psychology, health studies, politics, law, work placement and computing subject groups including Crime Prevention and Control, Sex and Gender Studies, Prejudice and Discrimination and Decision Making in the UK units. Throughout the Diploma, students will also develop transferable skills such as working with others in teams, utilising evidence, effective communication and explaining human behaviour.

The aim of this qualification is to prepare students for progression into higher education subjects including, but not limited to:

  • criminal justice
  • community justice
  • psychology
  • sociology
  • anthropology
  • social policy.
