The Access to HE Diploma (Nursing and Midwifery) aims to develop students’ understanding of the roles and responsibilities of nurses and midwives and the skills needed to provide essential support, care and advice within this sector.
Students will also develop their understanding of the professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses and midwives. Throughout the Diploma, students will also develop transferable skills such as communicating effectively with others, prioritising people, interpreting information and numeracy.
The aim of this qualification is to prepare students for progression into higher education subjects including, but not limited to:
- adult nursing
- midwifery
- child nursing
- mental health nursing.
Upon successful completion of this Diploma, students will be able to:
1. understand the roles and responsibilities of nurses and midwives
2. explain biological functions including reproduction
3. apply effective communication skills
4. demonstrate mathematics in a health and care context
5. develop core research, referencing and study skills for success in HE
The qualification prepares students for study at higher education level.
