The Access to HE Diploma (Humanities and Social Science) aims to develop student’s knowledge a range of social science subjects in order to access and explore ideas about society and how people shape and experience the social world. Students will explore different topics and concepts and develop their learning skills in this versatile diploma.
It also provides students with the opportunity to look at different areas of social science, including sociology of education, health, and religion. This qualification also allows students to undertake units in politics, policing and criminology, Philosphy, ITT education, English, history, sociology and social policy, psychology, health studies, politics, law, sport, counselling, subject groups including Police Powers, Race and Ethnicity, Abnormal Psychology, Early Years, Research Methods in Sociology, Understanding Stress, Brief Therapy and Property Offences units. Throughout the Diploma, students
will also develop transferable skills such as research skills, working with others in teams, adaptability and critical thinking.
The aim of this qualification is to prepare students for progression into higher education subjects including, but not limited to:
- anthropology
- criminology
- education studies
- English
- geography and environmental science
- history
- media
- philosophy
- psychology
- politics
- sociology
- social policy.
Upon successful completion of this Diploma, students will be able to:
1. explore a range of subjects in the humanities and social sciences
2. communicate complex ideas effectively
3. apply critical thinking skills to key concepts in the humanities and social sciences
4. develop core research, referencing and study skills for success in HE
The qualification prepares students for study at higher education level.
