The Access to HE Diploma (History) aims to develop students’ understanding of a range of different historical periods, how to evaluate historical sources and the ways in which history is constructed and presented differently by different people and at different times.
This qualification also allows students to undertake units in the history subject group including Chartism, History Project and Origins of the First World War units. Throughout the Diploma, students will also develop transferable skills such as research and referencing, evaluating sources, interpreting information and critical thinking.
The aim of this qualification is to prepare students for progression into higher education subjects including, but not limited to:
- history
- humanities
- education.
Upon successful completion of this Diploma, students will be able to:
1. explain and discuss a variety of different historical events
2. evaluate historical sources
3. structure complex ideas coherently
4. demonstrate criticality when discussing history and historical sources
5. develop core research, referencing and study skills for success in HE
The qualification prepares students for study at higher education level.
