The Access to HE Diploma (Health Professions) aims to develop student’s knowledge and skills in a range of different health-related professions. Students will develop their understanding of the key concepts of human biology, including cell biology, nutrition and digestion, the nervous system and reproduction.
This Diploma provides students with the opportunity to look at different health studies, including the roles and responsibilities of healthcare professionals, health promotion, mental health, eating disorders and social service provision.
This qualification also allows students to undertake units in sociology, social policy and psychology, including topics in equality and diversity, early social development and psychopathology. Throughout the Diploma, students will also develop transferable skills such as effective communication, working with others, interpreting information and numeracy.
The aim of this qualification is to prepare students for progression into higher education subjects including, but not limited to:
- midwifery
- nursing
- health science
- pharmacy
- paramedic science
- radiography
- physiotherapy
- occupational health
Upon successful completion of this Diploma, students will be able to:
1. explain key concepts in human biology
2. apply effective communication skills
3. demonstrate numeracy in a health and care context
4. recognise the roles and responsibilities of healthcare professionals
5. develop core research, referencing and study skills for success in HE
The qualification prepares students for study at higher education level.
