About this qualification

The Access to HE Diploma (Education) aims to develop student’s knowledge and skills in a range of different education-related professions. Students will study a variety of different units that will help to prepare them for both a career in education and for study in Higher Education. Students will explore how people learn and how to support learning whilst developing their own skills and knowledge in key curriculum areas.

This qualification allows students to undertake units from different subject groups including ITT Education, psychology, health studies, sociology and social policy. The units within these groups include: The School in a Wider Context, Memory, Carrying out Research in Psychology, Nutrition and Lifestyle and Understanding Mental Health. Throughout the Diploma, students will also develop transferable skills such as working with others in teams, planning and preparing, understanding how people learn and explaining complex ideas effectively.

Objectives of the qualification

The aim of this qualification is to prepare students for progression into higher education subjects including, but not limited to:

  • education studies
  • initial teacher education
  • primary education
  • secondary education
