The Access to HE Diploma (Education and Humanities) aims to develop student’s knowledge and skills in a range of different education and humanities-related professions. Students will study a variety of different units that will help to prepare them for both a career in education and for study in higher education. Students will explore how people learn and how to support learning whilst
developing their own skills and knowledge in the humanities subject area.
This qualification allows students to undertake units in ITT education, psychology, health studies, sociology and social policy, maths, politics, philosophy, media, history, English, geography and environmental science, subject groups including The School in a Wider Context, and Carrying
out Research in Psychology units. Throughout the Diploma, students will also develop transferable skills such as working with others in teams, planning and preparing, understanding how people learn and explaining complex ideas effectively.
The aim of this qualification is to prepare students for progression into higher education subjects including, but not limited to:
- education studies
- initial teacher education
- primary education
- secondary subject specific humanities degrees such as English, history or politics.
Upon successful completion of this Diploma, students will be able to:
1. explain the underlying principles of education
2. recognise the different factors that influence learning
3. explore a variety of subjects in humanities with underlying fundamental knowledge
4. develop core research, referencing and study skills for success in HE
The qualification prepares students for study at higher education level.
