The Access to HE Diploma (Criminology) aims to develop student’s knowledge and skills in a range of different criminology-related professions. Students will develop understanding of the different approaches and the range of knowledge that contribute to criminology as a subject. This will enable students to examine processes of criminalisation and victimisation as well as practical approaches to managing and responding to crime in society.
This qualification allows students to undertake units in policing and criminology, sociology and social policy, psychology, health studies, politics, law subject groups including Police Powers, Race and Ethnicity, Abnormal Psychology, Understanding Stress and Property Offences units. Throughout the Diploma students, will also develop transferable skills such as working with others in teams, utilising evidence, research skills and explaining human behaviour.
The aim of this qualification is to prepare students for progression into higher education subjects including, but not limited to:
- criminology
- community justice
- policing
- psychology
- sociology
- anthropology
- social policy.
Upon successful completion of this Diploma, students will be able to:
1. apply different perspectives to understanding crime and criminal behaviour
2. discuss different approaches to understanding and managing crime in society
3. communicate complex ideas effectively
4. develop core research, referencing and study skills for success in HE
The qualification prepares students for study at higher education level.
