This qualification enables learners from any faith or tradition to widen their knowledge and understanding of their own and other faiths and traditions.
The qualification encourages learners to respect individual points of view. Learners will consider the features in different faiths and traditions, what they have in common key difference between them, and their impact on world events. They will also understand the relationship between religious belief and life experience and how to respond to a faith issue linked to life experience.
This qualification prepares learners to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding.
To be awarded the AIM Qualifications Level 1 Award in General Religious Education, learners must achieve:
- 3 credits from the mandatory unit group

Tutors:
To offer this qualification, centres must ensure that tutors hold or are working towards:
- Hold or are working towards a relevant teaching and assessing qualification at Level 3 or above.
- Have undergone mandatory training/ or ongoing continuous professional development related to the subject area.
Internal Quality Assurer (IQA):
Centres must also ensure that they have in place an Internal Quality Assurance person who:
- Holds or is working towards a Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices or its equivalent.
- Has substantial experience of working in or assessing qualifications in General Religious Education.
- Is familiar with the assessment requirements of the qualification for which they are the Internal Quality Assurer.
