About this qualification

This qualification is being withdrawn. The qualification will close for registrations on 30/09/2023. Learners will still have until 30/09/2026 to certificate.

This qualification has been designed in partnership with Imperial English to provide an ESOL qualification for those learners who use online applications and/or platforms to study and assess their English Language skills.

Objectives of the qualification

This qualification includes both general and academic English Skills, giving learners a broad range of spoken and written English skills applicable to life, work and study.

Learners must be able to demonstrate English language skills at Level 1.

Why choose this qualification

Learners may progress onto the Level 3 Certificate in English Language Skills or may progress onto any vocational course delivered in English at Level 2. Learners may enrol on courses delivered in English where Level 2 is an appropriate level for the course and subject.

Rules of combination

To be awarded the AIM Qualifications Level 2 Certificate in English Language Skills, learners must achieve:

  • 18 credits from the mandatory units
  • No optional units for this Award

Quality Assurance Requirements

Tutors:

To offer this qualification, centres must ensure that tutors hold or are working towards:

  • A relevant teaching qualification at Level 4 or above.
  • A Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable experience of teaching and assessing English via the use of online applications and learning platforms.

Internal Quality Assurer (IQA):

Centres must also ensure that they have in place an Internal Quality Assurance person who:

  • Holds or is working towards a Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices or its equivalent.
  • Has substantial experience of working in or assessing qualifications in English for Speakers of Other Languages.
  • Is familiar with the assessment requirements of the qualification for which they are the Internal Quality Assurer.
