Assessment and Evidence

Learner Assessment

AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group qualifications and customised accreditation units are normally assessed through centre-devised assessment tasks. This provides recognised centres with the flexibility to assess learners in ways which best suits their needs, increasing their chances of success.

AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group supports this flexible approach to assessment by providing a framework of guidance and training to recognised centres in order to ensure that learner-centred assessment activity is valid and consistent.

The guidance and support provided includes:

Centre Handbook

The assessment section of the handbook contains important information on the principles informing AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group assessment practice, the relationship between assessment and the award of credit, and regulatory requirements.

Download our assessment handbook here.

Assessment Methods

Assessment methods provides guidance on the range of permissible assessment methods which tutors are able to select from. Each method is explored, with details of the nature of the method and examples of possible sources of evidence It is expected that tutors and other assessors will refer to this document when planning their courses and preparing assessment materials.

Flexibility

Further flexibility is provided through Recognition of Prior Learning and Achievement (RPL) for learners who have existing accredited achievement or unaccredited experience they wish to count towards an AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group qualification. Further details on this can be found in our Recognition of Prior Learning and Achievement Policy which is available on our policies and procedures page. If you wish to apply for RPL, then you will need to complete the Claim Form for Recognition of Prior Learning and send it to our compliance team.

Centres with learners whose needs cannot be accommodated within the assessment methods detailed in the 'Assessment Methods' booklet are referred to the Reasonable Adjustments and Special Considerations Policy, available on our policies and procedures page.
