AIM’s counselling diploma now offers blended practice option for learners

As from 1 August 2021, AIM centres delivering the AIM Qualifications Level 4 Diploma in Counselling Practice  will be able to offer learners a new, optional module on ‘blended practice’, where learners will develop an understanding of working with clients using forms of communication other than traditional face to face (in the room) working. The component encourages learners to explore the likely impact that this way of working may have on both practitioner and client. Learners will have the opportunity to embark on reflective blended practice through role play.

Why change?

Whilst the catalyst for this change has been COVID-19, this way of working is becoming established by professional bodies and industry as a valid and important way of delivering talking therapy, offering both opportunities and challenges to the practitioner.
The new component

  • is supported by the National Counselling Society (NCS)
  • has been designed by employers and counselling specialists
  • has a ready-made assessment, developed in partnership with counsellors – ensuring the assessment reflects current industry practice

Professional recognition

The Level 4 Diploma is aimed at learners whose qualification goal is to achieve professional status in counselling. The requirement of 100 supervised practice hours within this qualification falls in line with membership requirements of both British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and National Counselling Society (NCS).

What happens next?

AIM will continue to work with industry and professional bodies over the next academic year and anticipates blended practice becoming part of the mandatory content within the Level 4 Diploma from August 2022. AIM centres currently offering the Level 4 Diploma will have their program automatically updated.
