First Media Production Co-ordinator apprentice passes EPA with AIM

Kiara Wakeley, 25, began her apprenticeship in early January 2022 with media company, Create Studios. She was already working with the company who saw her potential and decided to enrol her onto an apprenticeship.

“Kiara was working for us now and again and had previously, successfully completed our Create Futures course”, says Marilyn Fitzgerald - Create Studios’ Exec Director and Production/Skills.

“She was helping on shoots, and it stood out that she would be a great Production Co-ordinator so we looked for an apprenticeship to match”.

Create Studios came across AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group; a national end-point assessment organisation (EPAO) and specialist in the delivery of end-point assessments for the creative, cultural, and professional services sector.

Kiara signed up for her Media Production Co-ordinator apprenticeship with Cirencester College and Create Studios appointed AIM as her EPAO. The final apprenticeship assessment was conducted by AIM trained, industry practitioners with specialist knowledge and understanding of the apprentice’s skill area.

Kiara was the first apprentice to pass her EPA with AIM in April 2022 and was the first person in the UK to have achieved a distinction in Level 4 Media Production Coordination in July 2022.

It feels very surreal as I almost considered not taking the opportunity when it was first offered to me - it sounded too good to be true!”, says Kiara.

I chose this apprenticeship because I had already formed a great relationship with Create Studios."

As I never went to university, and the highest qualification I had achieved prior was my A levels, the apprenticeship enabled me to earn as I learned the role, in a field which I am passionate about, instead of starting from scratch."

I would advise anyone, considering an apprenticeship, to go for it! If you need some confidence building skills or you feel like you are a little lost (mentally or physically) in terms of career or progression, an apprenticeship challenges you to get yourself out there and into the industry - which will open doors for you in the future.

AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group has over 30 years’ experience in the assessment and qualifications industry. They are the only registered end-point assessment organisation to specialise in the creative, cultural and professional services industries and is a member of the Creative UK and the British Interactive Media Association (BIMA).
