New SEND qualification launched for Teaching Assistants

We are pleased to announce the launch of the above qualification that has been approved by IFATE and Ofqual for delivery from September 2025, for which we are now taking expressions of interest from AIM centres.

AIM Qualifications Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry for Teaching Assistants focusing on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (Diploma)

The new funded diploma is a highly sought-after qualification that has been developed in conjunction with employers in the sector to provide a non-apprenticeship route into qualifying as a teaching assistant (TA) for adults, that builds on the TA apprenticeship standard giving a more in-depth study of special educational needs.

The qualification is designed to provide learners with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to enter TA roles and instil specialist knowledge and strategies in special educational needs into their practice.

Learners will develop a good understanding of the role of a TA as well as child development, special educational needs, relevant legislation, and both theory and practice. This will enable them to progress within the sector as part of a new or existing role.
