Two becomes one

On 1 September 2022, Open College Network West Midlands joined the AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group.

Both organisations share a unique and proud history of being part of the national network of Open Colleges. This heritage has helped to ensure a smooth transition into one organisation.

Whilst AIM will continue to operate from both its Derby and Wolverhampton sites it is now under new leadership. Find out more about our new CEO, Kevern Kerswell and what the new Chair and Deputy Chair of Trustees have to say about the merger.

Wider range of qualifications

AIM's expanded (non-Access to Higher Education) qualifications portfolio now comprises almost 600 recognised qualifications.  Open College Network West Midlands remains within the group as a subsidiary organisation and retains its own separate AVA licence.  AIM also retains its own AVA licence and both AVA licences will continue to operate as separate entities

Collaboration

Our subject experts collaborate with the colleges, independent training providers, universities, employers, voluntary organisations and other stakeholders to develop qualifications that meet the needs of a range of learners.

Growing portfolio of end-point assessments

Whilst EPAOs come in different shapes and sizes, AIM is different from many EPAOs in that it has an awarding and assessment heritage with a long track record of evaluating and certifying occupational competence. Valid and reliable assessments are at the heart of EPA, and as a specialist assessment and awarding organisation, we have a proven track record of working within the rigorous quality frameworks established by regulators like Ofqual. We also possess an intimate knowledge of the regulatory framework and guidelines covering all aspects of the apprenticeships’ regime.
