Access to Higher Education Conference 2021: Presenters

Guest speakers

Julie Mizon, QAA Access Manager
Julie Mizon imgae

Julie Mizon is Access Manager at the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education. She manages the scheme for the recognition and quality assurance of the Access to HE Diploma and the 40,000+ students that undertake the Diploma each year. Julie started her career at a further education college in the 1990s, where she became Assistant Principal, managing A levels and Access to HE programmes. Her interest in the life-changing opportunities offered by Access to HE led to her next role as quality lead for an awarding body, where she gained invaluable experience of how the Diploma is designed and quality assured and - more importantly - an understanding of what students entering into higher study need to support their transition.

Ann-Marie Karadia, QAA Access Officer

Ann-Marie Karadia is Access Officer at The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). She has worked on QAA’s management of the Access Recognition Scheme for 20 years and has been actively involved in a range of qualification development work, most recently development and implementation of the subject descriptor for medicine and the review of the grading scheme. Her current responsibilities also include data analysis to support the full range of QAA’s Access to HE activities. She joined QAA in 1999 where she worked with the Director of Institutional review and gained a valuable insight into quality assurance within higher education. She joined the Access to HE team in 2001.
A passionate advocate for participation in education and for lifelong learning, she is proud to work in a role that facilitates progression to higher education and graduate careers for thousands of adults through the Access to HE Diploma. A mature student herself, she graduated from the Open University in 2006, having studied while working and raising a family. She is governor at a local secondary school and has been an active member of PTAs throughout her children’s school career.
You can find Ann-Marie on Twitter @amk254.
