Kayleigh Marie ShawBurton & Leek College"I started the Access course in January 2019, walking into a classroom with 30 other students was daunting as I was out of education for 16 years. The staff made me feel right at home they let us all know that they were there to help us out over the academic year and that there was no such thing as a stupid question when it comes to education. Over the next couple of weeks, I had made friends with all 30 students and before we knew it, our very first assignment was ready to be submitted. The lessons were very helpful and were taught very well. Looking back, I often wonder how I managed to gain qualifications at such a high level without having any previous qualifications from school. The course taught me that learning is for people of all ages. I felt at ease with the staff and relied on them to guide me through the year and what a fantastic year it was! All my fellow peers had passed all the assignments and were waiting for our final grades. I can't thank the staff enough! They made the whole year worth it, and every question was answered with clarity. "Since receiving the needed entry requirements from the course I have since gone on to pursue a career in adult nursing at the University of Derby. This would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the dedicated and hardworking staff behind me every step of the way. I would like to personally thank Mr Ciaran Fallon curriculum leader for the access course, Doctor David Arrowsmith and Doctor Craig Platt biology lecturers, Miss Rebecca Hill and Mrs Janet Howson psychology lecturers and the rest of the team that made my pathway to nursing a reality." |

Lorna PatersonBurton & Leek College"The Access to Higher Education course prepared me so well for university. As an adult learner who had no experience in academia the course boosted my confidence in my academic abilities. The course also allowed me to gain access to my first-choice university. The skills I learned on the access course have aided me in my first year of adult nursing and helped me achieve grades (94%) I never thought possible of someone who isn't "academic". The access course is one of the hardest things I have ever done but so worthwhile. This access course really has changed life and I would recommend anyone contemplating an access course to do it!" |

Dominic HarrisonBurton & Leek College"The Access to Higher Education, January cohort of 2019, provided me with the tools, knowledge and ready mindset to tackle my forthcoming studies at degree level. The lecturers went above and beyond throughout the year of study and were instrumental in maintaining a positive experience as I returned to education after a few years out. I was inclined to choose the January start as it fit in with my life events, and Derby university was able to cater this which prevented a delay in me returning to study. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and I am benefiting in my studies today because of the investment of time and effort, in addition to as a well-structured course, delivered by the Access Team". |

Michaela HeatonWest Lancashire College“The Access course at West Lancs has given us the best baseline for Edge Hill’s course content whereas other access course students haven’t covered a lot of the information. The students from West Lancs have all passed our 2 assignments, OSCE, A&P exam and our placements. We were all so well prepared for this degree due to the Access course at West Lancs.” |
